Ms. Kathryn M. McCreery

Ms. Kathryn M. McCreery

Ms. McCreery graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1986 and first trained in Internal Medicine and became a Member of The Royal College of Physicians in Ireland (MRCPI). She proceeded in Ophthalmology training in The Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin and in Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA. She did a fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at The University of Pittsburgh/ Children’s’ Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, USA.

Ms. McCreery attained the degrees FRCSI (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ophthalmic Surgery), FRCOphth (Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK) and also became Board Certified in Ophthalmology, the qualifying exam of the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Following her training she was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmologist/Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s’ Hospital for three years prior to her return to Dublin in 2002. She is now a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin and at Blackrock Clinic, Dublin. Ms McCreery has been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon for more than 20 years. Her areas of interest are Refractive /Cataract surgery and Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Ms McCreery has published more than 70 articles in peer reviewed Ophthalmic journals, authored 5 book chapters and has made countless presentations at national and international Ophthalmic meetings.

She was awarded the Schindler Award in 1999 which is presented to the resident who exhibits high moral standards and compassion in patient care from the Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX and the Dan B. Jones Teaching Award in 2002 which is awarded annually to a member of the Consultant staff by the Ophthalmology Residents at Baylor College of Medicine for her dedication to resident teaching.

She was also nominated SOE Lecturer 2006.European Society of Ophthalmology.

She is a Council Member of the Irish College of Ophthalmologists and Programme Director for Higher Surgical Training in Ophthalmic Surgery in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and the Irish College of Ophthalmologists (ICO).

She is married with 3 children.

Dr Nikola Brummel – Murphy

Nikola Brummel-Murphy is a Medical Ophthalmologist at Blackrock Health Association since April 2012. She is originally from Germany and earned her degree from the Medical Faculty of Charité, Humboldt University, Berlin in November 2000.

After starting her ophthalmology training in Germany, she relocated to Ireland in 2002 and completed Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in September 2007 and Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists London in March 2008. She is a member of the Irish College of Ophthalmologist.

Dr. Nikola Brummel-Murphy enjoys all aspects of ophthalmology and has a particular interest in paediatric ophthalmology. She currently holds a position as an Ophthalmic Physician in Our Ladies Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin since 2010 and as a Medical Ophthalmologist in Naas Eye Clinic for general ophthalmology since 2014.

She resides in Dublin with her husband and enjoys life with her three children and four Guinea pigs.
