Visual Field Testing

Visual Field Testing

This is an essential test for diagnosing glaucoma. The visual field test will check for defects in your field of vision. The test is performed using an instrument called a perimeter. A patch is placed on one of your eyes while the other is being tested. You will asked to look straight ahead at a target. Lights of variable brightness will flash around the bowl-shaped perimeter, and you will be asked to press a button when you see a light. This test can be difficult to perform initially but people generally get better at performing the test with experience. Visual field testing is usually performed every 6 to 12 months to monitor for glaucoma progression.
