About Laser Eye Surgery

Laser eye surgery changes the shape of the cornea which is the front surface of the eye to allow light to come into focus clearly on the retina without the use of glasses or contact lenses. Laser eye surgery is suitable for many people with both far sightedness (hyperopia), nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism which is an unequal curvature of the cornea.

Refractive laser eye surgery is a very safe and effective operation with excellent visual results in people whose eyes are healthy and whose prescription is treatable with the laser technology available to us today.

However, there are some people whose eyes are not suitable for surgery if their spectacle prescription is outside the parameters of the laser to treat. A complete eye exam performed by Dr McCreery will determine if you are a suitable candidate.

Procedure

An eye examination is necessary to determine if you are suitable for refractive laser eye surgery. The examination includes vision testing and dilatation of the pupils with eye drops to adequately assess the retina (posterior part of the eye). The risks and benefits of refractive eye laser surgery will be discussed by Dr McCreery so that you can make an informed decision and have realistic expectations as to your visual outcome.

The most suitable treatment for you is determined by Dr McCreery after your eye exam. Dr McCreery performs the surgery and will see you at every postoperative visit.
