Intraocular Lenses IOL’s

Cataract surgery involves the placement of an intraocular lens as part of the procedure

There are 3 types of intraocular lens

Monofocal IOL’s which focuses light for distance or near

Toric IOL’s which has the additional ability to correct astigmatism

Multifocal IOL’s which can correct for distance and near vision. These lenses do not obviate the need for reading glasses for very fine print in some people however 80% are spectacle free.

Monofocal IOL’s are paid for by insurance companies as part of the cataract procedure but toric and multifocal IOL’s so called “Premium IOL’s” incur additional costs to the patient.
