Corneal-Cross Linking

Corneal Cross Linking (CXL)

This is a procedure which uses UV light and riboflavin (Vitamin B2) eye drops to strengthen collagen bonds in the cornea. It is a minimally invasive procedure and its goal is to halt progressive Keratoconus or corneal ectasia.

During the procedure Riboflavin drops are applied onto the eye every few minutes and a UV light is shone onto the cornea to strengthen collagen bonds. It is an outpatient procedure and typically takes an hour. Following the procedure, a contact lens is placed on the eye and eye drops are administered for 1 week.

Once the eye is healed you will have 6 monthly check ups and Pentacam imaging to evaluate the effects of the treatment.
